Material

Natural stone (marble), dye-free.

These cutting strips are created for mosaic artists, not finished tiles. They are not uniform in length or  width.

Colour

This marble is beige with a pink tinge. As it is a natural stone, every strip is unique, and colours may vary within each batch and from batch to batch.

Please keep in mind that colours can appear different on screen compared to real life, depending on your device and screen settings. If you'd like to be certain of the colour before purchasing, we recommend ordering our sample board.

Cutting

Marble strips are easy to cut using regular tile nippers or a Hammer & Hardie.

Size and Quantity

Each cutting strip is approximately 6 mm thick and most are around 10 mm wide, although some variation is to be expected. Lengths vary considerably, generally ranging from 20–50 mm.

Due to these variations in size, the number of strips in each pack will differ. As a guide, 100 g contains approximately 12–30 strips.

Using Marble Strips

Strips can be used flat or on their cut side (the riven). When used flat, they can be oiled or sealed to bring out a richer colour. When used on the riven side, the surface will be more textural, revealing the individual natural features of the stone.

Grouting

Marble is porous, so we recommend not grouting the riven (cut) side.

If grouting the flat, smooth side, seal the marble first and avoid allowing grout to dry on the surface. Remove excess grout immediately using a soft cloth.

Durability

This material is porous and therefore can stain. It is vulnerable to freeze damage. You can seal with a tile and grout sealer to minimize damage. Not recommended for underwater locations as the minerals in the water may cause some damage over time.

Coverage

100 g of marble covers approximately 60 cm² (0.006 m²).

Coverage is approximate and will vary depending on how the strips are laid and the spacing between them. Please allow for 5% to10% cutting scrap when calculating how much material you need.
